Kind of a brief update. Hanebad was delayed, and nothing else stood out in any way.
1. Sirius the Jaeger (9)
Pretty solid episode, but it’s largely just going through the motions and filling time until the main event.
At the start of this series I was kind of annoyed with Ryoko because it looked like she was going to be the helpless girl who keeps getting in trouble and needing to be rescued. Instead it turns out she’s pretty hardcore, and I’ve gradually come around to liking her. But apart from Ryoko taking her stalking to the next level, the romance subplot hasn’t gone anywhere since they first met. Yuliy is still oblivious and treats her like any other person. Some development would’ve been welcome.
Also it’s kind of weird for Yuliy to be asking “What’s a father like?” when two episodes ago he said Willard was like a father to him.

Yep, that was an episode all right. Some stuff happened, but it wasn’t super interesting. It really feels like the show is just coasting along and not putting in much effort.

Cat and dog fight for a while, but they’re evenly matched. Then they power up, fight some more, but they’re still evenly matched. Then they power up again and keep fighting. Finally Takezou comes in to put an end to it. I was never particularly invested in this fight to begin with. They’re fighting over the fate of the entire planet but barely feels like anything is at stake beyond the rivalry between two characters that haven’t been developed much. They could’ve at least tried to make it look exciting.
Now that we’ve crossed off another item on the checklist, only the final battle is left. The dragon will wake up a couple of years from now, so we get a time skip. Eh, sure, whatever.

5. ISLAND (11)
I thought the dialogue in last episode heavily implied Setsuna would go further to into the past, but instead he’s just back where the show started. In any case, this entire episode was boring. Setsuna returns with his memories intact, so he can use his knowledge to change the course of history. Except nothing that happened really needed to be changed except “don’t go out to sea with Rinne in a tiny boat”. So Setsuna just has to go and quickly fix everyone’s problems again so we can move on to the next plot arc. It’s like a recap episode except things are slightly different. Like instead of Karen going to the mainland with Setsuna, she goes with her friends. Stuff like that. Meanwhile the running joke is that Setsuna predicts what’s going to happen and people react with “how did you know that??” I hope you liked that joke because boy does it get run into the ground.
The real twist comes at the end, and once again we’ll have to wait and see if the explanation is hilariously stupid or just lame.
